Knockback Displacement is a technique that allows Player 1 to change the direction Player 2 is knocked back.
Normally, Player 2 is knocked away from Player 1. With Knockback Displacement, Player 1 can make the knockback travel in a different direction by manipulating their look direction immediately before the attack.
The technique can be performed with a sprint hit or a Knockback enchanted weapon. The important parts are the camera movement and the timing of the attack.
Before hitting Player 2, Player 1 chooses the direction they want Player 2 to be knocked.
Player 1 then quickly turns their camera toward that direction before flicking the camera back toward Player 2 and attacking.
The movement happens very quickly. Player 1 needs to return their aim to Player 2 in time to actually land the hit.
The important part of the technique is the look direction used when the attack is processed. For the relevant knockback attacks, Minecraft can use the attacker's look direction when determining the direction of the knockback.
This allows Player 1 to create knockback that does not follow the normal direction expected from their position relative to Player 2.
First, Player 1 needs to decide where Player 2 should be sent.
This can be useful when Player 1 wants to move Player 2 toward a wall, a cobweb, a ledge, or another setup.
Player 1 then looks toward the direction Player 2 should travel.

Immediately afterward, Player 1 flicks the camera back toward Player 2 and performs the attack.

The timing between these movements is important. Looking in the correct direction by itself is not enough. Player 1 still has to return to Player 2 and land the attack at the correct time.

The main advantage of Knockback Displacement is that it gives Player 1 more control over Player 2's position.
Instead of simply knocking Player 2 away from themselves, Player 1 can attempt to send Player 2 to the side or toward another desired direction.
The amount of displacement depends on how far the desired direction is from the normal trajectory.
Small changes in direction are generally easier to perform consistently. Larger changes require more precise camera movement and timing.
Knockback Displacement can be especially useful when Player 1 needs Player 2 to reach a specific position for another mechanic.
For example, Player 1 can use the technique to move Player 2 toward a cobweb, a ledge, a wall, or a Crystal PvP setup.

The speed of the camera movement is important because Player 1 needs to change their look direction and return their aim to Player 2 very quickly.
However, simply moving the camera as fast as possible does not guarantee a successful displacement. The movement still needs to be controlled well enough for Player 1 to land the attack.
If Player 1 looks in a direction that does not match the desired trajectory, Player 2 may not be displaced as intended.
Player 1 still needs to hit Player 2. Taking too long to return the camera can cause the attack to miss.
Large changes in knockback direction are harder to perform consistently than smaller changes.
The camera movement does not matter if Player 1 fails to hit Player 2.
The camera movement and attack have to occur at the correct time for the intended look direction to affect the knockback.
Knockback Displacement is mainly useful because it allows Player 1 to control Player 2's position more precisely.
The technique can be combined with other mechanics to create openings or force Player 2 into positions where they are easier to attack.
This is especially useful in Crystal PvP, where positioning can determine whether another mechanic can be performed successfully.
The basic sequence is:
Choose a direction → look toward it → flick back to Player 2 → attack
Player 1 uses the camera movement to influence the direction of the knockback instead of relying only on the normal trajectory.
The further the desired direction is from the normal knockback direction, the harder the technique becomes.
With practice, Knockback Displacement can be used to deliberately move Player 2 into positions that are useful for Player 1.
